Refining my artistic discovery/expression has been — and still is — a lifelong journey.
The Journey…as it stands today
Art has always been my primary language—though, for a long time, it was a rebellious one. Throughout middle school, my notebooks were less a record of history or science and more a gallery of elaborate doodles. While my peers were diligently writing essays, taking meticulous notes or simply being *kids*, I was lost in the margins, prioritizing sketches over sentence structures.
By the time I reached the sixth grade, I was on the verge of walking away from art entirely. I felt like an outlier whose “distractions” didn’t fit the academic mold. That changed when my art teacher discovered the worlds I was building in the corners of my lined paper. Instead of seeing a student who wasn’t paying attention, she saw a voice that needed a bigger canvas.
Recognizing a raw potential I hadn’t yet seen in myself, she fought to get me enrolled in the prestigious CCAD (Columbus College of Art & Design) Saturday Morning Art School. That pivotal moment shifted my trajectory from a distracted doodler to a focused artist. What started as a way to avoid writing papers became the foundation of my creative career, proving that sometimes the best work happens outside the lines.
My artistic path is attempting to be one of pure, spontaneous creation, a vibrant rebellion against the sterile, commercially driven machinery of the established art market. It’s a journey taken without intention, where the next stroke or form is an authentic surprise, not a calculated step toward gallery approval. Nor is there any attempt to MAKE or coerce the viewer into seeing or feeling things I want them to. Let viewers SEE and FEEL what THEY feel, without my forcing it. Art without manipulations of the viewers hearts, minds or eyes. I seek my work not to be defined by movements or art market value, but by the joy of making itself.
This commitment to unbridled discovery forms my central critique of art norms: I actively reject the notion that art must be expensive and unapproachable. My work inherently demystifies creation, proving that impactful, meaningful expression is accessible to the regular person. I champion materials found, repurposed, or affordable, ensuring the conversation isn’t about investment, but about raw, relatable human experience. My work is a gift of immediacy, a direct line from the soul to the street, bypassing the velvet ropes of the elite.
