Description
‘Numinous 17’
This striking 11″x14″ abstract composition is a masterclass in textural depth and the emotive power of a warm palette. The piece is structured into distinct horizontal registers, creating a sense of grounded landscape or architectural layering.
At the top, heavy applications of terracotta and deep oxblood pigment create a tactile, impasto ridge that feels like a rugged horizon. Below this, a dominant field of vibrant crimson commands the eye. This section is intricately detailed with fine, cross-hatched sgraffito marks, revealing a rhythmic energy beneath the bold color.
The lower two-thirds of the canvas shift into a softer, muted peach and sand-toned wash. This area is characterized by broad, translucent brushstrokes that allow glimpses of white gesso to peek through, lending the work an airy, atmospheric quality. Central to this lower field are three vertical red bars, a minimalist motif that provides a focal point of stability and order.
The artist’s signature and the date “2024” are visible in the bottom right, executed in a fluid, calligraphic style. Overall, the work balances the raw intensity of thick paint with the delicate precision of scratched lines, offering a rich sensory experience within its compact dimensions.
