Weltschmerz/Parody

This fragmented parody of Goofy embodies the weltschmerz of a classic character unmoored from their simple reality. Ripped from the comfort of his cartoon and placed in 2025, his chaotic, deconstructed image serves as social commentary on the disjointed nature of modern identity. The viewer finds him literally fractured, grappling with his own existence outside the screen’s edge.

**Weltschmerz Series

**This is parody in order to communicate my social commentary using our childhood cartoons as inspiration and how they might react finding themselves suddenly existing in our current reality.**

My childhood cartoons would not make sense of our world today if they found themselves transported out of the world they currently live in…brightly colored, crisp clean lines and storyline resolutions in 22 minutes.

This series allows me to express my thoughts, and provides some therapy, on the state of our country, world, culture … today, without being overtly political.

I will be adding more current cartoon characters bc I think it continues to relate to new generations… not just mine.

At the surface they’re just paintings of known, beloved characters— but they’re also a comment on the world I see.
